We expect to fill several vacancies at this time.
Performs the full range of technical survey duties.
Assists Land Surveyors in the reduction of data from raw field form to latitudes and departures of coordinates for mathematical analysis.
Reduces solar and stellar observations for determining azimuth.
Computes closures, inverses and proportional segments for restoring lost property corners.
In addition to the competencies identified above, the Survey Technician must demonstrate the ability to safely operate motor vehicles. In most cases, this will be a 4-wheel drive vehicle or ATV.
50% or less - You will be expected to travel for this position for site visits.

To qualify for GS-03:
You must possess 6 months of general work experience that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of a Survey Aid.
Successful completion of 1 year of postsecondary education that included at least one course in surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics. Transcripts must be provided.
Combination of Education and Experience totaling 100%: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of general experience and appropriate education. Education must be directly related to the work of a Survey Technician such as surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics. Transcripts must be provided.
To qualify for GS-04:
You must possess 6 months of general work experience that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of a Survey Aid AND 6 months of specialized experience related to the position. Examples of specialized experience include: conducting surveys, typically with an assistant, using hand instruments such as hand levels and compasses, making simple traverse surveys using compass and tape, measuring small land areas, using rod, tape and hand level, to obtain rough estimates of yardage to be excavated; and performing recording assignments which require concentration and specialized skill such as that required in making manual computations that involve elementary arithmetic processes made complex by virtue of the number and variety of manipulations involved and the speed with which successive readings are called.
Successful completion of 2 years of postsecondary education that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses in surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics. Transcripts must be provided.
Combination of Education and Experience totaling 100%: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of general experience, specialized experience, and education. Transcripts must be provided.
Physical Demands: Work requires some physical exertion such as bending and walking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous and densely vegetated. Required to lift and carry equipment necessary to efficiently perform the work of the position, and to provide for personal comfort and safety. This can include tools, personal protective equipment, food and water for extended periods of work away from vehicles.
Work Environment: Office work is performed in a setting that is adequately lighted, ventilated, cooled and heated. When doing fieldwork is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions, and injuries and discomforts from pests or animals. Employee will adhere to all safety rules.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
