2. Durango, Colorado
3. Estes Park, Colorado
4. Ft. Collins, Colorado
5. Lakewood, Colorado
6. Montrose, Colorado
7. Salida, Colorado

We expect to fill several vacancies at this time.

Performs the full range of technical survey duties.
Assists Land Surveyors in the reduction of data from raw field form to latitudes and departures of coordinates for mathematical analysis.
Reduces solar and stellar observations for determining azimuth.
Computes closures, inverses and proportional segments for restoring lost property corners.
In addition to the competencies identified above, the Survey Technician must demonstrate the ability to safely operate motor vehicles. In most cases, this will be a 4-wheel drive vehicle or ATV.
Travel Required
50% or less - You will be expected to travel for this position for site visits.

You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: serving as observer on a geodetic triangulation party, making local measurement of azimuth, reference, and station marks; tests observing tower or stand for eccentricity and collimation; observes horizontal and, as necessary, vertical angles to targets; checking abstracts of observations to be sure that observations meet specifications; serving as instrument man on geodetic leveling surveys not complicated by conditions such as river crossings or steep grades requiring deviations from normal procedures.


One year graduate level education (18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours) directly related to the work of a Survey Technician such as surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics. Transcripts must be provided.


Combination of Education and Experience totaling 100%: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education directly related to the work of a Survey Technician such as surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics. Transcripts must be provided.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

Physical Demands: Work requires some physical exertion such as bending and walking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous and densely vegetated. Required to lift and carry equipment necessary to efficiently perform the work of the position, and to provide for personal comfort and safety. This can include tools, personal protective equipment, food and water for extended periods of work away from vehicles.

Work Environment: Office work is performed in a setting that is adequately lighted, ventilated, cooled and heated. When doing fieldwork is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions, and injuries and discomforts from pests or animals. Employee will adhere to all safety rules.
If you are using education completed in a foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
