Job Description
Position Summary
Denver Water’s Engineering Division/Survey Section is currently seeking a qualified candidate to assist us as a Survey Geospatial Technician/Senior Technician.
The selected candidate, under general supervision, performs technical surveying geomatics and geospatial work in the field and/or office. Responsible for properly setting up and orienting survey equipment including digital and optical levels, GNSS/GPS base stations and RTK rovers, robotic and optical total stations, 3D laser scanners, hydrographic sonar equipment and data controllers. Performs records research, coordinate calculations, grid transformations, datum conversions, GNSS point post-processing, and point cloud registration and classification.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have formal supervisory responsibilities over other employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Survey/Geomatics Tech
• Perform the process of taking of measurements and the establishment of lines, grades, boundaries, and horizontal/vertical control points.
• Perform geospatial mapping for planning and engineering design.
• Operate GNSS receivers, theodolites, total stations, and levels in performing topographic, property and other surveys. Check boundary lines, grades, and benchmarks according to design plan, deeds, and other records.
• Prepare detailed real estate, right-of-way, land survey exhibits, legal descriptions in support of professional land surveyors, as well as charts, graphs and presentations based upon geospatial data.
• Process, and adjust GNSS and total station data, and 3D point cloud data utilizing various geomatics and geospatial software applications such as Trimble Business Center, Trimble Realworks, Arc GIS, Civil 3D, and Navisworks.
• Research county records to obtain subdivision plats, rights-of-way, ownership, underground and surface utilities, monument records, and published NGS control.
• Assist in maintaining safety standards particularly in areas of traffic control.
• Ability to work out of town for extended periods of time.
• Perform related work as required.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience – Senior Tech
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 4 years of related work experience.
• Any equivalent combination of certifications, education, or experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities for the position.
Education and Experience – Tech
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 2 years of related work experience.
• Any equivalent combination of certifications, education, or experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities for the position.
Licenses, Registration, and Certifications
• Land Survey Intern License. – Senior Survey Tech only.
• Must be able to possess and maintain a valid Class ‘R’ Colorado driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.
• The employee will be required to operate vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating of 10,001-26,000 pounds – only applies to the Survey Tech/Sr. Tech who is responsible to pull the trailer.
