The Right-of-Way Services (ROWS) Survey Section has the full-time, limited Land Surveyor position open. We have a diverse and talented team! If you enjoy teambuilding, mentorship, and working with innovation, this is an excellent opportunity to expand your skills beyond Land Surveying.
The Survey Section’s 30 professional and technical staff members provide land survey expertise to the Department of Transportation & Infrastructure, as well as other city agencies. The Survey team proactively reviews both private and city development projects, assists with land acquisition and real estate for all City departments including the review of subdivision plats and site plans, street vacations, easement dedications, land disposal, leases, and addressing.
Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Work on a team where second opinions, quality control, innovation and collaboration are valued and respected
Troubleshoot and problem solve for those outside the Land Surveying field
Work closely with Development Engineering Services, Engineering and Regulatory, Development Services, Real Estate, City Attorney, Clerk and Recorder: as a Reviewer, support of projects and records research
Provide customer service and develop relationships with our internal and external clients
Work with the Supervisor on task tracking data to monitor workload and forecast trends
Collectively contribute to the Survey Section in maintaining our historic records
Update standards of work providing instructions, guidelines and policies, to help our clients with consistent, clear and concise direction and review comments
Continuous learning and training to remain up-to-date with Survey Section’s team to increase knowledge of the City’s apparatus
Qualifications:
About You
Our ideal candidate will have:
At least five years as licensed Professional Land Surveyor
Managed, lead or been an integral part of a team working on complex land boundary projects
Created/authored Legal Description Exhibits
Expertise in the Public Land Surveying System (PLSS)
Understanding of Denver Range Line System
Expertise in AutoCAD, GPS, Data Collection and Total Stations/Robotics, ArcGIS
Experience working with the needs of customers and providing follow up and results using excellent service-based verbal and written skills

Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Surveying, Engineering, Science or a related field.
Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of experience of the type and level of Staff Land Surveyor.
Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
Licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) issued by the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors at the time of application.
Licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) by another state will be accepted in lieu of this requirement providing the applicant is licensed by the State of Colorado by the completion of the probationary period.
Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
